Our house was
an old farm which we rebuilt thirty years ago. It lies between the villages
of Kilmacolm, Bridge of Weir and Lochwinnoch.
There are
marvellous views of the distant mountains to the north with Ben Lomond
dominating the range.
Our family,
old and young, have moved on so we have some nice bedrooms for our guests.
Three of these have private or ensuite bathrooms. In the Nursery wing we can
accommodate families who don’t mind sharing the family bathroom and
cloakroom. |

This is a
quiet and peaceful place away from the urban clamour; a bit of hidden
Scotland or perhaps secret Scotland. We are near all the city delights of
Music, Art and Theatre but we are also at the gateway to the Highlands and
Islands. The ferry from Gourock (10miles) takes you across the Clyde to the
Cowal Peninsular in Argyll.
Glasgow is
about 16 miles away and Glasgow airport within a half an hour’s drive. A car
is essential. Prestwick airport is about an hour away. |

We try to
maintain a country house atmosphere where guests are welcome to stroll
around the gardens – feed the chickens or give the donkey a carrot. The
horses are retired from riding but love an apple or two and there is brown
trout fishing on the river on the farm.
Dogs are
welcome – we have a Labrador and a Visla, but let us know in advance. |

We are
surrounded by farm land and Muirshiel Country Park is just at the top of the
hill. This covers a large area of moorland between Largs, Inverkip and
Greenock round to Kilbirnie, Dalry , Beith - in Ayrshire and then
Lochwinnoch where there a RSPB wild life reserve for bird watching and many
water based activities for all the family.
There is
great walking, whether over the hills here to see the highland cattle and
Hebridean sheep on the farm or along the local footpaths which are easier
going.
Within 10
miles there are numerous golf courses. John is a member at Kilmacolm but all
of them welcome visitors and their fees are very reasonable
Castles and
Museums are with easy reach – we can help you design your day as you like-
south to Culzean – the home of the Kennedy clan and back via a lovely
restaurant at Moorpark. Up to Stirling and back by the
bonny banks of Loch Lomond.
And countless
more.
If you want
help with tracing your ancestors we can point you in the right direction.
Paisley is the birthplace of the Stewarts - the Abbey where the monks
invented curling – amongst other things – and Elderslie where William
Wallace was born. The Chief of the clan MacMillan lives just down the road
at Finlaystone with its beautiful gardens which are open to the public. |
